MONIN Cup India 2016, the hunt for the best Indian bartender concluded recently, in Gurgaon. With homeboy Prashant Rawalia from Trident, Gurgaon, bagging the coveted trophy, and a ticket to Paris to represent India in the international finals in December, the curtain came down on the biggest edition of MONIN Cup in India.
This year, 200 bartenders from country’s top bars and restaurants applied for a shot at the title. Only HOWMUCH? were selected for the regional rounds, held in four legs, in Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai and Gurgaon. From each city, 3 finalists were chosen for the national final that was held at the Hard Rock Cafe, Gurgaon. As each regional leg came to pass, the judges and the MONIN team knew that selecting one winner from such a pool of talent would be an uphill task. The participants knew this too, and the pressure was on, right from the beginning. However, time and again, the participants concocted superb drinks, showcasing not only their technical knowledge but also their flair and artistry as a bartender.
MONIN too, created a multifaceted opportunity for the young participants. The competition was not only a test against the best, but also a networking and learning opportunity. At each regional rounds, the panel of judges critiqued and corrected the bartenders’ techniques, giving them invaluable inputs, drawing from their long experience in the industry. For the finalists, a special masterclass was planned, with MONIN Beverage Innovation Director, Andrea Fidora flying in from Dubai to share the latest trends and techniques being developed in the industry, internationally.
As world’s finest syrups manufacturer, MONIN has always kept the bartenders at the forefront of all its business activities and the MONIN Cup India 2016 was yet another opportunity to not only discover talent but also to give back to the bar-tending community in India.
